INTERNATIONAL MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
COMES TO KINGSTON

KINGSTON, Ont. - (June 19, 2009) Team Canada will take on the national men’s team from Australia in the Bartlett Gym at Queen’s University on Wednesday July 22, 2009.   Game time is set for 7:00pm with doors opening at 6:00pm

Canada begins a new quadrennial with a young and extremely talented team and is very optimistic about its chances for 2012. Currently ranked 21st in the world, Canada looks to move up when it takes on the Aussies, who currently sit in the 14th position in the world.  The Cauncks will use the exhibition series with Australia as preparation for the 2010 World Championship qualification tournament that is being held in Cuba in early August.

This match will be a homecoming for one member of Team Canada – Adam Simac.  Simac is a former member of the Queen’s Gaels who hails from Ottawa.  The 6’8” middle player led Queen’s to the 2006 OUA Championship and a fifth place finish in the CIS men’s volleyball championship.  From 2006 to 2008, Simac played professional volleyball in Austria before joining the Olympic program, full-time.

This is the first international men’s volleyball action to come to Kingston since Canada played Argentina in 2002, and is part of a three-city tour, with matches also being held in Ottawa on July 21st and Sherbrooke on July 25th.

“We are so pleased and excited to welcome Team Australia to Canada,” said head coach Glenn Hoag. “This will be a great opportunity for both teams to prepare for the upcoming season, as Australia will be heading to the FIVB World League after its stop in Canada”.

Tickets for the Kingston match are $10.00 each and are available on-line at
